HRO XL 3mm 30 Tippet Rings for Fly Fishing Leaders 40#/3mm

The keeper the rings come on is a great feature. Being so small they're pretty tough to handle in the field. The safety pin-type keeper also attaches nicely inside my chest pack so I can find the rings easily. First time out I used with 4X leader and Tippett. Vs a surgeons knot probably 2x the breaking strength. No breakage at the ring after quite a few hookups in the trees and weeds. Twenty + trout up to 5lb (catch and release) with zero breakage. Also a lot quicker to tie two Davy knots for leader and tippet than one surgeons knot. You can also easily tell how much Tippett length is left by checking the position of the ring. The weight is inconsequential so casting was not an issue. The leader turned over just like with a knot. The rings don't break the water surface tension so they don't tend to sink a floating fly. That said however I wasn't using anything very small. For instance I don't know if a 3mm ring would sink a size 24 dry fly. It certainly wouldn't increase drag. I was able to mend line with no hang up at the ring. I will get more of these in different sizes and use for all fishing situations.

Have used a few times. My line, when it breaks, is usually where it contacts the ring. I think the ones i got have edges that wear the line. Tossed what was left.

Lets me set up tippets with flys ready to go so my line is in the water longer. They are small enough to not effect the weight of the line.

I started using these tippet rings recent and it has made changing tippets and leaders a breeze. Great quality and good service.
