Does not hold!!!
We tried various pens, pencils, and brushes and they all just fall off. Even the cat falls over! So disappointing as this was a gift that didn't even function as advertised.

Not as big as I thought
I guess I should pay more attention to the dimensions of things cause this was really tiny. I expected it to be big enough to hold a pen or a pencil. It was really cute, but in my opinion wasn't worth what I paid for it which with taxes and what not was over ten dollars.
