It is what it is!
There are heaps of movies released every single year that are formulaic and predictable. They aren't breaking any cinematic ground here and the plot relies upon the supporting cast from the smallest role (Anna Gunn makes an appearance in the maternity home and Christopher Meloni as a husband, whom with his wife are patients of Danny Devito's role as a gynaecologist) to the largest to be gullible, uninformed and too lazy to look at the leaps of faith that are needed to trust what the main characters are saying and selling. Only once, Emma Thompson tries to research Arnie's 'condition' and is easily placated, and a university and research director manages to get more press outside a small fertility and gyno clinic without having a reason why, and the usually nosy press - upon hearing why they've been summoned - don't look around back or into any windows of the clinic to try and find this pregnant man. They simply give up the second Danny Devito presents a pregnant woman without asking any follow-up questions. The maternity home believes that Arnie is a woman with no real coercion, and plot holes such as sharing a lab after the research has been shut down, to the tiny details that always bug me, like he gets off the plane, but his baggage is checked and if he's starting over in Europe, why does he still have a flat completely full of not only furniture, but his things. If he were turning his back on the USA permanently, why are no loose ends tied up and why can he just go back to the lab with no answers? Why is it that Emma Thompson is the only one to mention any of the very obvious and quick physical changes when he works with many people, not to mention a complete personality change? Why does Frank's character able to just show up at a black tie event for a pharmaceutical convention and why would Danny's character pitch during a dinner when the Canadian pharmaceutical company have travelled to San Francisco and they would likely meet during a more structured meeting with more than just Danny discussing the details? They would surely need a lawyer and Arnie's character to bolster the research presented and make assurances. Because they are taking the word of one person, whom has been shut down by the FDA, has no research funding, and his team couldn't even be bothered turning up to corroborate the research and map out a plan?I know these are tiny details, but there are SO many tiny details and so many big plot holes, I find myself being caught up in them. Like....he's had an abdominal implantation of a fertilised egg, an embryo and which didn't Emma notice her egg was missing if she was as concerned and obsessed with her 'dairy' of eggs? ESPECIALLY her own egg? Also, with no uterus, how is the placenta attached in the peritoneal cavity and if the placenta (or colloquially, water) breaks where does it go? Would it cause sepsis? Can he carry an infant to term with no uterus? His drug isn't such a magical substance to negate the very organs/tissue systems required in order to propagate another life. This isn't a case of parthenogenesis.....it's not central to the plot line or the depth of the intellectual and scientific knowledge required in order to enjoy the movie, but it's so cheesy and improbable, it becomes a detriment to the movie. Don't use scientific language that a lot of people won't understand unless you explain through dialogue and provide us with the answers, since they've now opened a Pandora's box of questions and issues.Aside from all my moaning about that, Danny carries the cast and plot, and Emma is adorable, but they jumped the shark making her THAT clumsy and seem like a precocious child. It's lighthearted, but misses the mark. I want to give it 2 1/2 stars in total. If you don't care about plot holes and just want a movie you can predict the end to in the first ten minutes, and you like the cast, you'll probably enjoy the movie.

Future-Foetus-Fun-For-All
Is this Schwartzenegger/DeVito epic 'Junior' the most influential film ever? It certainly spawned the cinema of futurism, and watching it today – now in an important new era of science and free flowing socio-political ethics; it's uncanny to see how many shadows of cinema yet to come it already contains. Undeniable classics such as Jurassic Park, Three Men and a Baby, and The Matrix are all there in embryonic state. In short, with Danny DeVito at the height of his acting career, Emma Thompson in one of her most developmental roles and Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger harvesting a bursting talent throughout; Nothing is inconceivable. Junior is has all the ingredients for an absolute classic - a must watch for any serious cinema-goer.

Watchable but only just, 2 1/2 stars
I'm feeling generous, I'll give what is really a 2 1/2 star film 3 stars instead of 2. Out of the 3 comedies Arnie's done (I do not count Jingle all the Way as comedy, despite what others may think) this is the one I like least. Twins is my favourite and the first half of Kindergarten Cop is great. This is a one joke film which manages to be watchable mainly thanks to the like ability of its leads, minus Emma Thompson who is just annoying (I do like her in most other films).
