Best heating pad on the market
The best heating pad on the market. I use 3 of these pads to start over 100,000 seedlings each year. Bottom heat is essential in early spring to get a head start on hard to germinate seeds like peppers. I do end up having to replace about 1 pad a year. So running 24/7 from Christmas to Mother’s Day, that’s an average life of almost 10000 hours each. Towards the end of their life, one side will begin to get hotter than the other. You can tell this by the warmer side germinating and growing faster. Rotating the flats on the pad ensures even growth, and squeezes a few extra months of life out of the pad.In addition to the recommended layers of plastic and screen, I spread pencil thick bamboo stakes the length of the pad to elevate the flats 1/4” off the plastic, preventing flats from sitting in any water that may pool on the plastic (another solution could be to install the pad on a slight incline to prevent pooling). I have 3 on the same circuit and they are able to keep the soil 78 F while the ambient temperature of the greenhouse is 46 F all night, no problem.Overall, I am beyond in love with these pads. I practically make my entire living because of them. Perfect size for a small operation.

Flimsy and fussy, but it works
This mat is surprisingly thin, appears to be made out of something akin to thick mylar film. It has to be covered with a waterproof medium such as plastic or rubber sheeting, then topped with something like 1/2" rabbit wire. Owner is supposed to ground it somehow (stake in the soil), and it has no thermostat. I had to purchase and jury rig a simple thermostat to control the thing. The setup works, but I still worry. I have it in a,6'x'8' greenhouse. The heat is very acceptable, doesn't get hot enough to damage anything, and keeps the greenhouse above freezing when it gets down in the 20s outside.

Durable and reliable.
We have used Olson heat mats for years. Quality that lasts. I run them from mid Dec through early to mid April for a small nursery and they last for years if taken care of during off season.

Buyer Beware - Does not include all that you need
On the one hand, we are very pleased with this product. It seems to be well made and produces a nice amount of heat. But on the other hand, the product description is FAR from adequate if not misleading. The instructions that come with the product say you need to lay the product on plywood, place the product on the plywood, cover the product with sheet plastic, cover that with aluminum screening, electrically ground that screen, and cover that with another layer of plastic sheeting. It goes on to say that you should try to keep the product dry.At a bare minimum all of this should be revealed in the product description. In some ways, the product is only part of a kit to make a propagation heater, but with not all the parts included. But to have a product that is intended to be used under plant containers in a greenhouse and then say you should keep it dry is really pretty ridiculous.
