UNITEK OTG MHL to HDMI Multimedia Charging Dock Micro USB Hub with Cable Only for Samsung Galaxy S3 S4 Note2 Note3

Start with the cons:- The connector (to the phone) needed some jiggling at times because movement would break the connection to the device and hence to the connected screen.- Could not seem to power up from my PC's USB ports, only from wall power outlet.Pros:Otherwise works as advertised for me on my Note 3.- OTG port worked as advertised for me. Was able to connect with USB keyboard and mouse attached to two of the 3 front end USB inputs. The phone switched to desktop mode and all input from mouse/keyboard was processed transparently.- There were no problems detecting the attached USB mouse or keyboard.- Was able to attach a mass USB storage device as well (500GB external HDD) to third USB input. The phone auto mounted it and I could access it immediately.- No need at all to read any instructions or install any software. Plug and play.This device was useful particularly because my screen was cracked/broken and I could not use it to enter the lock pin. Once connected, was able to mirror to screen through HDMI, unlock the phone, copy off my files. I'll remove the lock pin next actually so that I can use more conventional methods to recover my data.Used same day shipping (fulfilled by Amazon). Device was at my door at 4:00 pm.

I had a Samsung Galaxy S4 with a broken screen - it would not display anything, nor would it accept touch input. MHL by itself would display the phone on my monitor but not allow me to unlock the phone. OTG by itself didn't allow me to see what I was doing to unlock the phone. This device allowed me to connect a monitor, mouse and USB thumb drive simultaneously so I was able to unlock the phone and then copy files from the phone to the thumb drive. If this were something I needed to use regularly, it probably would have gotten 2 stars - I had to play a little with the order of cable connections and the mouse was finicky. But as far as being a rescue option that allows simultaneous functions, this is the only device we've found that works at all.

I just received mine in the mail today. I have a Samsung Galaxy S5. While Amazon's listing for this product does not list the S5 as a compatible phone, Unitek's website does. That's why I ordered it. So, the package for the product also lists the S5 as compatible, but there are little white pieces of tape covering up the "S5" on the package, so they must know that it probably is not compatible. I'll try to remember to post an update once I actually test it. I'm in Wisconsin and the package was sitting on my porch for a while in the cold. I want to let it warm up a bit before trying it out.Update (later in the day): I was unable to get my S5 to work. I tried plugging in the various cables in different sequences/order but nothing worked. So, I was a bit bummed. However, my wife has a S4 and I decided to try that. Bam! Worked like a charm right away. The video quality is great, there is VERY minimal lag/delay between the phone and the tv display. I ultimately want to be able to play video games on my 50 inch plasma. So, the lag/delay issue was tested and it should not be much of a problem, or no problem at all, depending on what game it is. I then decided to try the usb ports. With the tv still connected, I plugged in a mouse. Within seconds, a pointer/arrow appeared on the screen and was entirely functional. I then plugged in a keyboard and that worked right away too. So, I had the tv, mouse, and keyboard all connected at the same time and all worked great. Oh, one more thing, the phone actually charged! Note: it wouldn't work at all unless it was plugged into the wall (AC outlet). But, once it was working, the phone's battery charge actually INCREASED, not a slow DECREASE like many other MHL adapters out there.I give it 5 stars. The S5 issue is not at all Amazon's fault because S5 was not listed on Amazon's website, just the manufacturer's. And, like I said, the package had little white pieces of tape covering up "S5" so they know it doesn't work with it. If you have a S4 though, you will not be disappointed. Works great, and is much cheaper than the official Samsung docking station which does essentially the same thing.

While the concept was great, it never came to fruition. I consider myself above average tech savvy and attempted to get this to work multiple ways prior to calling it quits and sending it back.Phone - Samsung Galaxy Note 3Software - Android Version 4.4.4Issue - was never able to get the video to display on separate screen (tried multiple sources).Potential Reasons -Bad cable (cable that comes with devise that connects hub to phone) - Devise did not show as charging when plugged in.Phone and/or software version - have read over blogs regarding issues with 4.4.X having issues docking.Probably biggest factor was the lack of ability to contact this company. This is BY FAR the most frustrating part. I understand occasional faulty devises/wires, however, if you do not provide a mechanism for us to contact you to problem solve, it eliminates our ability to fix in-house... Now I have to ship back through amazon and this guarantees that I will NEVER purchase another devise from UNITEK. (disclaimer - you can fill out a complaint form on their website; however, after waiting three weeks I gave up on getting a response...)Resolution - Unfortunately, spend the extra money and purchase the hub from Samsung. While I try and be frugal where it makes sense... this is not one of those times. I wasted time and effort on this devise.

It does not work with Galaxy S5 active. The box has stickers to cover the text about it being compatible with S5. Not sure why it wouldn't since S5 works with OTG and MHL. I've tested other connectors with my S5 active and they work just fine. This does work with S4 though and since it isn't being advertised as compatible with S5 I can't fault it. With the S4 test, the phone recognized it as a hub and was charging while mirroring the screen over HDMI and allowing a USB keyboard to work. I suppose other than making it work with S5, it would be nice if it had an SD card slot or some additional USB ports. It does hold the phone just fine in the phone slot as well.
